We are finally having some hints of Fall, with some rain, cooler nights and leaves changing colors.

After our extremely long and extremely hot Summers we love this time of the year.

Still warm enough to wear t shirts during the day but cold enough to go under a blanket at night, perfect!

Mum's knitting project matches in color, not sure yet what this complicated looking thing is going to be.

But those red leaves are just small patches, we just started Fall and Winter will be here in December, before we know it Summer will begin again.

Flowers are still blooming and butterflies are still buzzing around, unfortunately mosquitoes as well arrrggg.

Our Creative Space...

We have two of these lovely chairs, they were an icky ugly brown which took many days to clean off. I'm now painting them in cheerful colors, matching some vintage embroidery (which you can actually see in the photos if you look carefully).

Can't wait to finish these, I think they are going to be quite smashing!

Vintage Toy Revamp

I'm still busy saving my photos, so no laptop yet. But that doesn't mean that we haven't been creatively busy.
This cute little toy crib is from the 1940's. Very shabby and very adorable, made in the same shape cribs were back then in Anatolia, Turkey.

With some brush cleaning and some black paint the body looked much better.

Then mum made a mattress, bedding and pillow.

The mattress is done the same style beds were made back then, between two layers of fabric there would be cotton, and it would be sewn together to keep its shape.

The blanket and pillow are made with a very traditional Turkish fabric.
Cribs were made without hardly any barriers as babies would be swaddled to the crib, so there was no way that they could fall out, needless to say that this system is hardly used anymore.

And I made an evil eye protection, as even toy babies can use some extra :)
The entire set is available at แจกเครดิตทดลองเล่นฟรี ไม่ต้องฝากStarHomeStudio, perfect for doll collectors, especially folklore!

Our Creative Space...

We've made these floral tights by sewing leaves and flowers by hand.

What you might no realize is that they have to be stretched to sew or they are just tiny nets and sewing is impossible.

We actually purchased a mannequin with just legs for just this purpose :)

It does do the trick, but sewing these are still a challenge and take many hours to finish.

These are available at StarsWear, among many other unique clothing.

Patchwork Challenge

I wanted to make a patchwork bag in which the bottom and the gusset would continue seamlessly in the body of the bag.

I hadn't used that construction before so it was a bit of a puzzle. I ironed the patches in a diagonal on interface, starting with the gusset/bottom part and filling the front and back afterwards.

It wasn't the most straightforward way possible, but I only could figure it out by doing it so.

After the bag was assembled this way I cut it open to be able to sew the patches together in a flat surface.

And then you can see how easy it really is if you know how ! Well, next time it will be easier :)

I love how slick the seamless construction looks!

The bag is available at StarBags, among other patchwork bags :)

New Year, New Ideas

In case you have noticed, our Etsy shops have been closed for a while, we'll be back soon but need to put some things in order first to get back to normal.

In the mean time we are re-organizing our workspaces, and our home and also finishing projects that have been waiting for a while.

These chairs have been ongoing since Summer 2016!

For some reason they waited a long time to get all the attention they needed. We did peel off the old upholstery, repaired the skeleton and sanded the woodwork back in 2016 but after that we were not sure what to do with them.

Finally at the end of last year we had enough and I painted them white to have a plainer base. We then played around with embroideries and fabrics until we were satisfied. I then painted some little flowers to match the embroideries, varnished the paint work and they were finally ready to be reupholstered.

These chairs are very different than the usual chairs we have done and were challenging but finally after 1.5 years they are ready :)

The beautiful trim was a trim we bought last year in California and it matches perfectly.

They took a while but we are happy how they (finally) turned out :)
They'll be available at StarHomeStudio as soon as we reopen (which will be soon!).

From Trash to Treasure

Finally another furniture project finished! The heat is not really motivating, especially as a lot has to be done outside. This sad little ottoman had some cute legs, but that was the only thing that was nice.

The fabric and foam were in a horrible state, the legs were wobbling too, all in all it needed a lot of TLC.

Peeling off all the fabric caused me two big blisters, the wood is hard and the fabric was stapled at 3 places.

After sanding, securing and painting the feet the ottoman already looks much better.

Time to cut the kilims.

Stapling, webbing, fabric and foam.

Sewing the kilims and trims together.

As the wood was so hard it was very hard to hammer all the nails in place (FYI I was wearing shorts :)).

But the result was worth all the sweat, tears and blisters.

Giving these sad furniture pieces a new life is so satisfying, especially as we also use vintage fabrics and embroideries.

The ottoman is available at StarHomeStudio among other one of a kind furniture pieces and home decor.
